Kane must leave for trophies
Legendary forward Teddy Sheringham says Harry Kane must leave Tottenham if he wants to win trophies.
Ex-Spurs and Manchester United striker Sheringham, 55, was speaking after watching England skipper Kane, 28, net twice for the North Londoners in their 5-0 thrashing of Everton last night.
He told Sky Sports: “It’s a short career, you get probably 12-14 years if you’re lucky.
“He [Kane] is coming into a crossroads in his career of, ‘what do I do, do I stay at a club which might challenge or do I go somewhere I know they’re going to challenge?’
“If I was advising him, you want to play at the top level, you want to play in Champions League finals, you want to be playing for the league title.
“If you want to do that, I think he needs to leave.”
Sheringham, who netted 146 goals in 418 Premier League appearances during his playing days, speaks from experience after leaving White Hart Lane in 1997 to join Sir Alex Ferguson’s Red Devils.
At Old Trafford, the England international would go on to enjoy a trophy-laden stint which included three Premier League titles, an FA Cup and a Champions League.
Toffees come unstuck once more
Jamie Carragher pulled no punches in his assessment of his boyhood club Everton after seeing the Toffees trashed yet again by Spurs.
It was a hapless display in North London from Frank Lampard’s relegation-threatened visitors, who have now won only two of their last 19 Premier League fixtures — suffering 14 defeats in that run.
And ex-Liverpool defender Carragher, who supported the Blues as a youngster, delivered a scathing analysis of the current state of play at Goodison Park.
Carragher, 44, said: “Whenever you see teams who are worst in the league away from home, the first thing that comes to mind is they’re weak and soft. That can never be Everton.
“I said that back four is Championship level but for Everton not to be physical, aggressive, making it tough. That’s what Everton have always been, even when they’ve not been at their best.
“Fundamentally this group of players at this club is so weak now. The lack of athleticism in that Everton team is frightening.
“If their next two home games don’t go well, they’ve got massive problems.”
Home clashes with Wolves and Newcastle are next up for the Merseysiders, before a tough run against four of the division’s top six sides.
