Klopp on Chelsea
Jurgen Klopp has expressed his sympathy for Chelsea’s players and staff.
The Blues are in limbo after the UK Government froze Roman Abramovich’s assets yesterday — scuppering the Russian’s plans to sell the club he has owned since 2003.
And Klopp, 54, knows it will not be easy for the team while there is so much speculation surrounding the future of the world and European champions.
Speaking ahead of his side’s trip to Brighton tomorrow, the Liverpool boss said: “Thomas [Tuchel] and I know each other well but we are not that close to talk about what’s been said.
“We talk about games, yes, but not other moments. Of course, for him, the players and the employers at Chelsea, it’s not a situation they are responsible for.
“One man is responsible for that and it’s Vladimir Putin. I don’t know about Abramovich’s role and all these kind of things. But over the years you could guess he’s pretty close.
“I think what the British Government did is right, to be 100 per cent honest.
“It’s still not cool for the people of Chelsea or the supporters, I get that. But I think the things the Government did are right.”
Blues will keep pushing
Mason Mount insists Chelsea’s stars will remain focused on winning matches and nothing else.
After registering a goal and an assist as the Blues won 3-1 at Norwich last night, the England midfielder said: “There was a lot going on and you can’t really avoid things when it’s all over the news.
“Us players though, we just try and focus on what we have to do on the pitch and that’s our main objective.
“You try not to look at the outside too much, we just focus on the task in hand on the pitch.
“We knew we had a big game in the Premier League to prepare for and when you’re in the top three, looking to put pressure on the sides above you, that’s all you think about.
“We focused on the game in hand and putting a strong performance in and we managed to do that, which is the most important thing.”
Talk of the Toon
Eddie Howe has been named Premier League Manager of the Month for February.
Newcastle picked up 10 points from a possible 12 in Februrary as they pulled clear of the relegation drop zone.
And Howe has been rewarded for his efforts by being awarded the latest monthly gong.
