Bale doubt
Wales are hopeful Gareth Bale will face Austria on Thursday — despite Carlo Ancelotti revealing the veteran attacker missed El Clasico due to an injury.
Bale, 32, sat it out as LaLiga leaders Real Madrid were battered 4-0 by arch-rivals Barcelona at the Bernabeu last night.
Ancelotti said: “He tried but he wasn’t up to playing. He’s now going to join up with his national team and they’ll decide whether he plays or not.”
Dragons boss Robert Page will be keen to ensure Bale is fit to play when Austria visit the Cardiff City Stadium for their crucial World Cup play-off semi-final clash.
Good to be back
Timothy Castagne was all smiles yesterday after netting a stunner for Leicester in his first appearance for nearly three months.
Having shaken off a long-term thigh issue, the Belgium international rocketed home a delicious attempt into the top corner as the Foxes beat Brentford 2-1.
Speaking after the Premier League victory, Castagne, 26, said: “It was the best return possible. We got the win and [I scored] a good goal, so I’m very happy.
“To be honest, I wanted to shoot fast because I saw the guy trying to block it. I saw the trajectory and I knew it was in.
“I think you can see on my face that I was as surprised as the rest of the team.
“I didn’t expect I would start but I was happy to. I was blowing a bit at half-time, so that’s why I came off.
“Even in training, I don’t think I’ve scored goals like that. I’m not known for my shots. It’s my best one, I think.”
Before returning to the starting line-up to face the Bees, Castagne had not featured since Leicester’s 1-0 win over Liverpool on December 28.
