Keane slams dismal Red Devils

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane believes some Red Devils players “should be hiding” after yet another dire showing against Liverpool last night.

United were thumped 4-0 at Anfield by their bitter rivals, leaving them three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham with an inferior goal difference and having played two games more.

For seven-time Premier League winner Keane, 50, recent performances have left a sour taste, with the Irishman suggesting several individuals have already decided to leave Old Trafford this summer.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Keane said: “There’s six or seven [players] — look at the Everton game a couple of weeks ago — they’ve already left the building. They’re gone. You can tell with their performances. They’re on their holidays, they’ve switched off.

“They don’t turn up, they lose 4-0, they’re shaking hands going down the tunnel, they’re doing the interviews with soundbites. You should be ashamed of your life. You should be hiding.

“It’s not the club I played for. It doesn’t reflect what Man Utd stood for when I played for it. It’s chalk and cheese. I don’t see a Manchester United team out there fighting and playing with pride.”

Things do not get much easier for Ralf Rangnick’s side either, with a trip to Arsenal on Saturday lunchtime followed by a midweek home clash with Chelsea next week.

Citizens feeling the pinch

Pep Guardiola claims Manchester City’s medical team administered 71 different treatments to players in a three-day period last week.

The Citizens were without Kevin De Bruyne, Ruben Dias and Kyle Walker for their FA Cup semi-final against Liverpool last Sunday, which they went on to lose 3-2.

Yet the trio’s injury woes were only the tip of the iceberg according to the Spanish boss.

Guardiola, 51, said: “Our physios made 71 treatments in the space between Atletico Madrid and the semi-final against Liverpool.

“The full figure is 71, it’s true. I saw the people there. The doctor came to me. But it’s not for just one game, it’s after these three ‘finals’.

“The medics told me as it was more than usual. If you want to fight to win, you have to be fit. You need 16, 17 or 18 who you have to have all the while fit, otherwise it’s difficult to handle all of the competitions.”

City host Brighton at the Etihad tonight knowing victory will see them return to the Premier League summit.
