Beale turns down Wolves

QPR boss Michael Beale has reportedly turned down the chance to take over at Wolves.

The Molineux outfit were ready to take a gamble on the 42-year-old tactician just 16 games into his managerial career.

But after guiding the Rs to the top of the Championship with a 3-0 win over Cardiff last night, Beale has opted to stay at Loftus Road.

Reports suggest that the ex-Rangers and Aston Villa assistant held extensive talks with QPR legend and director of football Les Ferdinand, who convinced him to remain in West London.

After the Cardiff victory, Beale said: “If an offer comes in officially, you don’t have to take it.

“You have to weigh up everything. There are a lot of questions you need to get answers to.

“It is a dream of mine to manager in the Premier League but it has to be the right opportunity, the right moment and the right club.”

Wolves remain managerless two-and-a-half weeks after sacking Bruno Lage.

They have also held talks with Nuno Espirito Santo and Julen Lopetegui but interim bosses Steve Davis and James Collins will likely take charge for a fourth game against Leicester on Sunday.

Varane: Teamwork the key for United

Raphael Varane admitted that Manchester United’s 2-0 victory against Tottenham might have been their best performance under Erik ten Hag.

United were dominant from the off and never gave third-place Spurs a sniff at Old Trafford.

Varane and centre-back partner Lisandro Martinez kept Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son quiet throughout the game, leaving the ex-Real Madrid man thrilled.

He said: “I think it was a very solid [performance]. We created a lot of chances. We could have scored more goals, especially in the first half, we had the great chances.

“I think the pressing was very good and a good tempo, so it was great teamwork tonight.

“It is very good for the defence to keep the clean sheet, but [the] teamwork [was] fantastic.

“I think we could see 11 players in the same tempo, very aggressive, very focused on the game, so it was a great performance.”

Ten Hag’s men will look to back up the Spurs display when they travel to Chelsea in a tantalising clash on Saturday evening.

Tsimikas thrilled for Nunez

The ever-improving Kostas Tsimikas was thrilled to notch his fifth assist of the season as Darwin Nunez’s header earned Liverpool a 1-0 win over West Ham.

The Reds backed up their 1-0 victory against Manchester City with another narrow success against the Hammers with Alisson saving a Jarrod Bowen penalty at Anfield.

Tsimikas only made 13 starts in the Premier League and Champions League last term, but already has seven in those competitions this time around.

Yet while his displays are garnering attention, it is helping Nunez to his third goal in four games that gave the Greek full-back most pleasure.

Tsimikas said: “It’s a very good moment for me. Especially because it was a cross for Darwin because I wanted to assist him.

“I’m very, very happy for him because I know he wanted to score also.

“Obviously he would [want] to score more goals but hopefully he keeps his energy and his goal for the next games. I’m very, very happy for that.

“It’s like every day I work with it to make better crosses and to have better performances. So, I’m very happy for that.”
