Koul heads
Kalidou Koulibaly believes a Premier League top-four finish is still within reach for Chelsea this season.
A 1-1 draw with relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest yesterday left the Blues seven points adrift of Manchester United in the final Champions League qualification berth.
Yet Senegalese defender Koulibaly, 31, remains calm about the prospect of closing that gap between now and May.
He told Chelsea’s website: “It’s going to be a big challenge [to finish in the top four] but we like a challenge and we always believe in ourselves.
“We have to embrace it, We have to believe in ourselves and work hard to improve.
“We will get ready to face Man City, which will be a tough game, but we will do everything to win this match and move forward.
“We’re disappointed not to get the three points because we always go into games wanting to win.
“In the first half we did quite well and looked in control but in the second half, they came at us with more aggression and more positivity in their play.
“Forest made things difficult for us, we couldn’t keep a clean sheet and this was disappointing.”
Graham Potter’s side are now preparing to face Manchester City twice in four days, with a league clash at Stamford Bridge on Thursday followed by Sunday’s FA Cup third round tie at the Etihad.
Turn to the Max
Leeds have made RB Salzburg defender Max Wober their first capture of the January transfer window.
The 24-year-old Austrian international has penned a four-and-a-half-year deal at Elland Road and is reunited with his former head coach Jesse Marsch, who he worked under between 2019 and 2021.
Wober, who can play at left-back and centre-back, is the third Salzburg player to join the Whites after the captures of Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen last summer.
He said: “Coming now to Leeds, a club with such a big history and tradition is definitely something special and was always a dream for me growing up, arriving at Elland Road feels amazing.
“I know what the coach wants and having played with Brenden and Rasmus will help me get connected to the team quicker.”
