Potter not feeling Blue
Graham Potter believes Chelsea are moving in the right direction despite their 1-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in first leg of their Champions League last 16 clash.
The Blues managed 21 shots to the home side’s 14 at Signal Iduna Park, with Joao Felix going closest after seeing his first-half effort cannon off the crossbar.
But after being punished by Karim Adeyemi’s sensational 63rd-minute solo goal, Potter’s men will welcome their German counterparts to Stamford Bridge on March 7 with plenty to do.
Potter, 47, said: “We have to do better. We were pushing at the time [of the goal] and were the better team so to concede in that manner is what we’re disappointed in, but the players are honest.
“They know they can do better with that. We have to help them, of course, but again we’ll probably focus on the positive which was the performance was another step forward for us.
“Before the game we were looking at Reece [James] and Ruben [Loftus-Cheek] and Ben [Chilwell] and Kalidou [Koulibaly], you know it’s their first and second games for quite some time.
“It isn’t easy to pick up the speed of the Champions League but I still think they did it really well, you’ve still got three new players coming in and again playing against a team that is in a good moment.
“So hopefully I think we will improve and then in three weeks’ time we can take the game at Stamford Bridge.”
Walsh doubt for Lionesses
Midfielder Keira Walsh is a doubt for England’s opening match of the Arnold Clark Cup against South Korea tonight through illness.
Barcelona ace Walsh, 25, did not train on Wednesday ahead of their clash in Milton Keynes but there are no other concerns for manager Sarina Wiegman.
The Lionesses are looking to defend their title after winning last year’s inaugural edition and also face Italy and Belgium over the next seven days.
The Dutch boss said: “She has a little stomach bug. Everyone else is ready.
“It gives lots of opportunities to see players and combinations against different opponents. Every camp is important to see where players are at.
“We know this tournament will give us lots of information but there are still many games to play [before the World Cup].”
England, who were crowned European champions in the summer, remain unbeaten in 26 games under Wiegman as they prepare for this summer’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
