Romelu Lukaku has rejoined Inter Milan on loan from Chelsea as the worst kept secret in football has finally been confirmed.
The Belgian striker’s return to Stamford Bridge last summer was expected to deliver goals galore as he looked to settle some unfinished business in West London.
But the £97.5million signing’s second spell with the Blues did not go to plan, with Lukaku netting a paltry 15 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions.
The release of an interview criticising Thomas Tuchel’s tactics and expressing his love for Inter did not help his cause and saw him dropped before Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool in January.
After arriving in Italy to finalise his loan move, Lukaku said: “I’m so happy to be back.”
It remains to be seen how much the Blues will recoup should Inter end up re-signing Lukaku on a permanent basis at the end of his loan.
