Manchester City have unveiled their new home shirt for the 2022-23 season.
The new kit celebrates the Citizens’ league-winning team of the late 60s — led by club legend Colin Bell, who passed away last year.
PUMA’s round-collared design takes inspiration from the classic shirts of that era, with the traditional sky blue accompanied by maroon colouring on the neckline and sleeves.
Company representative Marco Mueller said: “The new Manchester City home kit is a fitting tribute to classic City home kits styles of the past.
“We wanted to create a modern spin on the jerseys worn between 1967 and 1971.
“The maroon trim was an important detail because this was an iconic colour seen on many of the previous City home kits.
“The jersey is a great homage to the entertaining teams of old and the exciting free-flowing football of the current City team.”
Bell and Co’s successful team of 1967-71 went on to win every domestic cup available to them, as well as the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1970.
The shirt also features a crown logo placed in the neckline paying tribute to ‘Colin the King’, who is regarded as one of the club’s greatest ever players and described as the “heart” of that side.
His son Jon said: “As a family, we’re incredibly touched that the club and PUMA have chosen to remember the teams of the late 60s and my dad with next season’s home kit — it’s a beautiful gesture.
“It really captures the history and togetherness of Manchester City as a club, and I hope the fans like it and can remember those great moments.”
The shirt retails at £70 for adults and £55 for kids, with an authentic gift-boxed version also available for £100.
Pep Guardiola’s men could model their new strip in the final Premier League game of the season against Aston Villa on Sunday, when they will hope to be crowned champions for the fourth time in five seasons.
The shirt is available to purchase at PUMA.com, the City store at the Etihad Stadium Store, the club website and at select retailers worldwide.
