Manchester United vs Brentford predictions: Red Devils can earn Bees reprieve

Manchester United are unbeaten in their last 23 home games in all competitions
Brentford have won just one of their last five away games in the Premier League
Recommended bet: Man Utd win to zero

After a 4-0 defeat at Brentford at the start of the season, Manchester United will be looking for revenge when they host the Bees on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils have come a long way under Erik ten Hag since their heavy loss at the Gtech Community Stadium in August and should be able to get their push for a top-four finish back on track at Old Trafford.

Team news

United have seen a host of players return to fitness in recent days, with Raphael Varane, Marcus Rashford, Marcel Sabitzer and Anthony Martial all in contention to feature against Brentford.

The Red Devils do still have players sidelined, though, with the likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Tom Heaton, Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek injured, while key Brazilian midfielder Casemiro is suspended.

Bees boss Thomas Frank has his own injuries to consider ahead of this midweek clash, with Kristoffer Ajer and Keane Lewis-Potter both set to miss Wednesday’s game with calf and knee injuries, respectively.

The visitors will be boosted by the return of Shandon Baptiste from suspension, but the game is likely to come too soon for Vitaly Janelt due to a knee issue that has not yet cleared up.

The stats

United secured a double over Brentford in the Bees’ first season in the Premier League last term, winning 3-1 in London before a 3-0 victory at Old Trafford.

Brentford responded with a 4-0 victory in the first month of this campaign, as United got off to a difficult start under boss Ten Hag.

The Red Devils’ home form this season has been impressive, with United unbeaten in their last 23 games in all competitions at their Old Trafford home.

Their last home defeat came at the hands of Real Sociedad in the Europa League back on September 8.

United’s defensive record at home has also caught the eye, with Ten Hag’s side keeping seven clean sheets in their last 10 Premier League games at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, Brentford have struggled on their travels and have won just three of their last 14 away games in the league and conceded 23 goals in those matches.

Prediction

United have been excellent at home this season and should be able to get their push for a top-four finish back on track after defeat at Newcastle United last time out.

The Red Devils’ defence record has also stood out, and Ten Hag’s side have the ability to make it eight clean sheets in 11 home league games on Wednesday night.
