Mason Mount has revealed he expects to open contract talks with Chelsea in the near future.
The England midfielder’s current deal has another two years to run but speculation surfaced earlier this year that a number of clubs, including Manchester United, were interested in signing him.
However, Mount has moved to allay any fears the Stamford Bridge faithful may have of losing him.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “I’ve got two years but I’m extremely happy at this club.
“I’ve been here since six, so I think maybe over the next couple of months the talks will start. It’s exciting.”
Academy graduate Mount, 23, played a key role as Thomas Tuchel’s side finished third in the Premier League and lifted both the European Super Cup and Club World Cup last season.
He was also integral in Chelsea’s runs to the Carabao Cup and FA Cup finals, where they lost both Wembley showpieces to Liverpool on penalties.
And Mount insists his boyhood club have their sights set even higher this term. He added: “Of course, winning the title is always the goal.
“It’s very tough to do that because you have to be so consistent throughout.
“We started last season very well and we were in a good position and then you lose a few games, drop a few points and you’re third. It happens so quickly.
“We experienced that last season and probably the last three, so now it’s something we need to change.
“Every single season you want to do more. You want to win more. We won two good trophies last season and it could have been four.
“So we want to step up, keep going. We’re a team and club that win things with that winning mentality. I can definitely see us pushing on and wanting to be successful.”
Chelsea are currently in America preparing for the new campaign. They face Club America in Las Vegas in the early hours of Sunday morning before tackling Charlotte FC next Thursday.
Their stay in the States is rounded off by a clash with London rivals Arsenal in the Florida Cup.
