Aleksandar Mitrovic hailed Fulham boss Marco Silva after being named Championship Player of the Season at the 2022 EFL awards ceremony in London.
The Serbian striker, 27, fired the Cottagers back to the Premier League with an astonishing 41 goals in as many appearances in the second tier.
Mitrovic’s haul smashed the previous record set by Ivan Toney, who scored 30 times for Brentford last season, with three games to play and he will now focus on Fulham’s bid to avoid a third-successive relegation from the top flight.
He said: “It’s been an amazing season on a personal level. As a striker, you try to score as many goals as you can. You always want to score more and more. There’s a few more games so let’s see.
“Since the new manager’s come in, we’ve created our style of play and it’s perfectly suited for me and every player in our squad. He [Silva] gets the best out of his players.
“After the last season in the Premier League, it’s hard when the mentality is down. We know how hard this league is, it’s not easy to come from the Championship. We showed that we wanted to be top of the league from the first game.”
Fulham face Nottingham Forest at Craven Cottage on Tuesday night with their goal machine going up against Young Player of the Season Brennan Johnson, who picked up the award alongside Mitrovic yesterday.
Johnson, 20, has attracted interest from a series of Premier League clubs as they look to secure one of the country’s hottest prospects.
The Welsh winger has scored 15 times and has set up 10 in the league this season and will be looking to top off his breakthrough campaign by firing Forest to the top flight for the first time since 1999.
