Tyrell Malacia cannot wait to play under his “tremendous” new boss after becoming Erik ten Hag’s first signing at Manchester United.
The Red Devils have confirmed the capture of the Feyenoord full-back for an initial £13million, with the 22-year-old penning a four-year contract at Old Trafford.
In his first interview as a United player, Malacia said: “It’s an incredible feeling to have joined Man Utd.
“This is a new chapter for me, new league, new team-mates and a tremendous manager leading us.
“I know from playing against his teams in the Eredivisie, the qualities that he has and what he demands of his players.
“Whilst I know that I am still young and will continue to develop, I can promise the United fans that I will leave everything on the pitch every time I pull on the red shirt.
“I’ll always be thankful to Feyenoord for all they have given to me and my family. None of this would be possible if it wasn’t for them.”
A Netherlands international, Malacia is considered one of his homeland’s leading prospects and has earned five senior caps for his country so far, including both of their Nations League clashes with Wales last month.
Most comfortable at left-back, the speedy defender has reportedly been scouted extensively by Ten Hag who has been an admirer since his days in charge of Ajax.
French outfit Lyon were also chasing the Rotterdam native but United accelerated their interest in recent days to ensure they got a deal over the line.
Malacia made 136 senior appearances for Feyenoord and played a leading role in their run to last year’s Europa Conference League final, where they were beaten 1-0 by Jose Mourinho’s Roma.
Interestingly, United’s new recruit shares an agency with Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong — another player Ten Hag is supposedly keen on luring to Old Trafford.
