Cristiano Ronaldo has taken to social media to hail Portugal’s “historic” World Cup win over Switzerland.
Ronaldo, 37, came off the bench last night as the Selecao booked a quarter-final clash with Morocco on Saturday by hammering the Swiss 6-1.
A free agent followng his departure from Manchester United, all eyes were on the Portuguese superstar before kick-off.
But it was his replacement in the starting XI, Goncalo Ramos, who claimed the headlines with a hat-trick and an assist in the last-16 tie.
Ronaldo, who had a goal disallowed for offside, said on Instagram: “Amazing day for Portugal, with a historic result in the biggest contest in world soccer.
“Luxury display by a team full of talent and youth.
“Congratulations to our national team. The dream is alive! To the very end! Come on, Portugal!”
