Fallen giants Juventus are on a quest to return to the European places — but local rivals Torino will be more motivated than most to knock them off course.
Fourth-placed AC Milan must avoid losing to Atalanta if they wish to keep hold of their Champions League spot, while second-placed Inter Milan need to see off the challenge of Bologna to maintain their own position in the table.
Elsewhere, league leaders Napoli will expect to take another step closer to the Serie A title when they visit Empoli.
And Roma in third will be targeting all three points against bottom-of-the-league Cremonese.
Game of Matchday 24: Juventus vs Torino (Tuesday, 7.45pm)
Rarely have Juventus and Torino been so close in the table ahead of a Derby della Mole.
The pair are separated by just one point after the Bianconeri were hit with a 15-point deduction for previous transfer dealings, leaving the club nine points behind sixth-placed Atalanta going into Matchday 24.
But Juve have not lost to Torino in any of their last 17 meetings across all competitions (13 wins, four draws) and enjoyed a comprehensive 3-0 (4-1 on aggregate) Europa League win over Nantes in midweek.
Max Allegri can count on his side’s phenomenal defensive record as they seek an important victory — only Barcelona (16) have won more games without conceding than their 14 across Europe’s top 10 leagues this season.
AC Milan vs Atalanta (Sunday, 7.45pm)
Milan and Atalanta are both vying for a spot in the top four this season and losing this clash would put a big dent in those aspirations.
Positively for the Rossoneri, they have not lost any of their last four meetings with La Dea (three wins, one draw) and come into this fixture off the back of three successive 1-0 victories in all competitions.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s side, meanwhile, have lost three of their previous four league and cup matches (one win).
Rafael Leao will be hoping to break his duck on Sunday — he has failed to register a goal or an assist in any of his last seven appearances across all competitions.
Empoli vs Napoli (Saturday, 5pm)
Mid-table Empoli may appear to be unassuming opponents for runaway leaders Napoli — but Saturday’s hosts have lost just one of their nine Serie A meetings with the Partenopei on their own patch (four wins, four draws).
Paolo Zanetti’s men have been formidable at the Stadio Carlo Castellani of late, going unbeaten in their last five league outings at the ground (three wins, two draws).
However, Napoli are truly a force to be reckoned with. They have not conceded in any of their previous four matches in all competitions and boast the third-best goal difference of any Serie A side in the last 60 years (+41) at this stage of the campaign.
In Victor Osimhen, they boast a scoring machine who has netted in each of his last seven league outings and is trying to chase down Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of 11 consecutive scoring appearances in the division.
Cremonese vs Roma (Tuesday, 5.30pm)
A contest with winless Cremonese should pose few problems for high-flying Roma, who come into this game on the back of a 2-0 (2-1 on aggregate) triumph over FC Salzburg on Thursday night.
Davide Ballardini’s side drew 2-2 with Torino last time out which saw them equal Serie A’s longest-ever winless streak (30 games).
Only Valencia and Hoffenheim (one each) have earned fewer points in Europe’s top five leagues in 2023 than Cremonese (two).
Roma have won their last four league meetings with the Grigiorossi, keeping clean sheets in each of the previous three — however, Jose Mourinho’s men were knocked out of this season’s Coppa Italia by Tuesday’s opponents.
Bologna vs Inter Milan (Sunday, 11.30am)
Inter Milan will hope to further solidify their place in the top four by beating Bologna but Sunday’s eighth-placed opponents are no pushovers.
Over the last six matchdays, only Napoli (18) have picked up more points than Bologna and Inter (both 13, also level with Roma).
The Nerazzurri have found the net in each of their last seven meetings with the Rossoblu, scoring 20 goals in the process.
That record bodes well for Romelu Lukaku, who has scored in each of his previous four Serie A matches against Bologna. He will be full of confidence, after netting a late winner against Porto in Wednesday’s Champions League encounter.
