Two unbeaten Serie A sides put their records on the line in the standout game of Matchday 3 as Juventus host Roma.
Elsewhere, Lazio face Inter Milan at the Stadio Olimpico, with Simone Inzaghi taking the Nerazzurri back to his old stomping ground.
Napoli take on Fiorentina, while champions AC Milan tackle Bologna at the San Siro.
Game of the week: Juventus vs Roma (Saturday, 5.30pm)
Paulo Dybala returns to Piedmont on Saturday, with new club Roma taking on his old side Juventus in Turin.
The Argentine attacker scored 68 goals for the Bianconeri at the Allianz Stadium in all competitions, more than anyone else. He is also Juve’s 10th-highest scorer in Serie A with 82 strikes.
History is on Juventus’ side in this fixture — the Old Lady have won more Serie A games (85) against the Giallorossi than any other opponent, including their last three.
Furthermore, Max Allegri’s team have won 10 of their last 11 home meetings with Roma and have collected more points at home against the club from the capital (30) in that period than anyone else.
Victory here would give the Bianconeri consecutive home wins to start a new season for the first time since 2019-20. But Roma have won their last two away trips in Serie A without conceding.
Lazio vs Inter Milan (Friday, 7.45pm)
Former Lazio boss Inzaghi returns to the Stadio Olimpico, where he is the only coach to reach 100 Serie A wins since 1994-95.
In fact, only Dino Zoff (2.1) and Sven-Goran Eriksson (1.9) boast a better points-per-game average with the Biancocelesti than Inzaghi (1.8).
Lazio come into this clash unbeaten in their last three home games against Inter (two wins, one draw) having lost the previous three.
If they can extend that run, they will also win their first two home Serie A games of a new campaign for the first time since 2015-16.
Expect goals in this one. Lazio have the best shooting accuracy in Italy’s top tier after two matchdays (67%) with Inter (57%) in second place.
Fiorentina vs Napoli (Sunday, 7.45pm)
It has already been a record-breaking start to the season for Napoli.
The Partenopei have scored more goals in their first two league fixtures than ever before (nine) — beating the eight they managed in 2020-21.
The omens are good for the Neapolitans who have won all of their last three Serie A trips to the Stadio Artemio Franchi, scoring at least twice on each occasion.
However, Fiorentina have kept seven home league clean sheets across 11 games in 2022. No one in Italy’s top flight has recorded more, with AC Milan the only side to match that tally.
The visitors’ summer signing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia poses the biggest threat to that record. If he scores in Florence, the Georgian will become only the second Napoli player to net in each of his first three Serie A games in the three-points-for-a-win era, after Jose Callejon.
AC Milan vs Bologna (Saturday, 7.45pm)
AC Milan are enjoying the longest unbeaten league run in any of Europe’s five major divisions (18 games) — and Bologna are out to stop them.
The Rossoneri have picked up where they left off after winning the Scudetto last term and have only lost one of their last 25 league meetings with Bologna (18 wins, six draws).
The last time Milan lost to Bologna was in January 2016, when current Rossoblu head coach Sinisa Mihajlovic was in charge.
Bologna have netted in their previous three away league fixtures — but prior to that they failed to find the back of the net in four of their six games on the road.
Reported Manchester United target Marko Arnautovic, 33, has begun the new term by scoring on both matchdays. He is the first Bologna player since Roberto Baggio in 1997-98 to manage that feat.
Verona vs Atalanta (Sunday, 5.30pm)
Verona have lost their last three home Serie A fixtures and will hope to put a stop to that run when they host Atalanta.
Not since April 2021 have Verona lost four in succession at the Bentegodi — but Atalanta have won their first two away fixtures in Serie A in all of the past three seasons.
However, the unbeaten La Dea have only managed to extend their undefeated start to three games once in the last 10 Serie A campaigns.
Atalanta winger Jeremie Boga will be their dangerman. He has three goals in five games against Verona — as well as three assists — making Sunday’s hosts his favourite opponent.
However, the Gialloblu can call on the in-form Thomas Henry. Including last season, the only French player to have scored in more consecutive Serie A games since 1994-95 than Henry’s four is David Trezeguet.
