The final two matches in Serie A’s penultimate set of fixtures take place on Monday and it promises to be an entertaining affair.
Sampdoria vs Fiorentina (17:30)
After defeats for Genoa and Cagliari on Sunday, Sampdoria’s top-flight status has been confirmed for another season.
The club can now breathe a sigh of relief ahead of what could be a busy summer transfer window.
Marco Giampaolo’s side should play with a little more freedom but they are unlikely to get any change out of Fiorentina, who are still battling for a top-six finish.
Vincenzo Italiano’s men have lost their last three away matches across all competitions, although two of those defeats have come against Juventus and AC Milan.
They had suffered just one loss from their previous seven away contests prior to this three-match losing streak.
With European football still on the agenda for Fiorentina, they should have enough to pick up the victory at Sampdoria, who have nothing left to play for this season apart from pride.
Juventus vs Lazio (19:45)
Arguably, the biggest game of the day comes at the Allianz Stadium at 19:45 when Juventus, who already have a top-four spot sewn up, play host to fifth-placed Lazio.
The Old Lady will need to pick themselves up from the Coppa Italia final defeat to Inter Milan last week but there is the feeling they could already be thinking about summer plans.
Lazio are still fighting for something as they have yet to secure a top-six finish and they go into the contest on the back of two straight victories, beating Spezia 4-3 and Sampdoria 2-0.
Maurizio Sarri’s men have only failed to score in one of their last 14 matches across all competitions, while they have netted eight times in their previous two away assignments.
Although they have little to play for, Juventus should still provide some entertainment and they have scored two or more goals in four of their last five contests.
It may prove prudent to look at the anytime scorer market and, in particular, Italy international Ciro Immobile, who has enjoyed another fine season with Lazio and is on course for the Golden Boot.
The 32-year-old has scored 27 league goals, leaving him ahead in the Golden Boot race, and he will be eager to keep adding to his tally and potentially break the 30-goal mark.
