Spurs add Spence to continue Conte’s spending spree

Djed Spence promised to thrill Tottenham fans after completing his switch from Middlesbrough for a reported £12.5million.

Spence, 21, made 42 league appearances on loan at Nottingham Forest last term, playing a pivotal role in their promotion to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs.

The London-born Fulham academy graduate also featured in Forest’s run to the FA Cup quarter-finals, netting in their 4-1 victory against East Midlands rivals Leicester in the fourth round.

After sealing his move, he said: “Playing in the Premier League for a big club like Tottenham is a dream come true.

“Everybody wants to play in the Premier League, as a kid you watch it all the time. It’s a big club, we’re playing Champions League football and obviously, some of the best players play here so it’s a privilege to be here.

“I bring excitement, skill and speed. I just want to excite the fans and play well. I can’t wait to meet the players, staff and manager.”

Spence becomes Spurs’ sixth signing of the summer transfer window, joining Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison and loanee Clement Lenglet in making the move to North London.

Antonio Conte’s latest recruit has signed a five-year contract with his new employers and will now rival Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal for a starting berth at right wing-back in the Italian’s first-choice XI.
