Aston Villa defeated Brighton 2-0 at Villa Park in Steven Gerrard’s first game in charge of the Villans.
The former-Rangers manager’s first game in charge of his new side looked set to end as a goalless draw until his side scored a double late-on.
Ashley Young fed Ollie Watkins down the left flank in the 84th minute, with the forward cutting inside and firing past Jason Steele to give the hosts the lead.
Just five minutes later, Villa had their second when Tyrone Mings finished after the visitors failed to clear their lines.
The victory ends Aston Villa’s run of five straight defeats, while Brighton remain in eighth place.
