Stat Attack: All you need to know about Brighton 0-0 Newcastle

Brighton were left to rue their profligacy in front of goal as they were held to a 0-0 draw at home against a stubborn Newcastle side.

The visitors looked as though they had broken the deadlock early on as Callum Wilson fired into the far corner — but it was ruled out for a high boot.

Brighton bossed the game thereafter and Solly March twice saw the ball cleared off the line, with first Kieran Trippier and then Fabian Schar rescuing the Magpies.

The Seagulls winger also set Adam Lallana up early in the second half but Nick Pope produced a fantastic stop to ensure Newcastle escaped with a point.

Brighton boss Graham Potter was effusive in his praise of his side’s performance despite their failure to pick up three points.

He said: “The performance was fantastic. Although we should have won we’re incredibly proud. We were playing against a top team.

“Credit to the goalkeeper. We just missed that last little bit. We knew how tough it was going to be against Newcastle, with the way they set up and how good they are on the counter-attack.”

Brighton are unbeaten in each of their six Premier League home games against Newcastle (W2 D4) — more than against any other opponent.

Since their debut Premier League season in 2017-18, Brighton have played out 22 goalless draws — at least four more than any other side in the competition in that period.

Newcastle have gone unbeaten in their first two games of a Premier League season for the first time since 2011-12.

Nick Pope is the first Newcastle goalkeeper to keep clean sheets in each of his first two league games for the club since Mike Hooper in 1993.

Newcastle mustered just four shots, their fewest in a Premier League away match since March 2021, also against Brighton (three).
