Brighton’s fantastic start to the season continued as they recorded a 5-2 victory over Brendan Rodgers’ sorry Leicester side.
Kelechi Iheanacho opened the scoring only for a Luke Thomas own goal and a tidy Moises Caicedo finish to put Brighton in the driving seat. However, Patson Daka levelled up the scores to complete a chaotic 45 minutes.
After the restart, Leandro Trossard put Brighton 3-2 up after a nicely-worked move and shortly afterwards, the Belgian won a penalty which Alexis Mac Allister put away.
Seconds before full-time, the Argentine got his second of the game, scoring a glorious free-kick to send Brighton into party mode and Leicester into despair.
Seagulls boss Graham Potter was understandably thrilled and was full of positives about the performance.
He said: “It’s a fantastic afternoon for us, amazing win. Our players were incredible, to have a bad start and recover like we did and score two goals to get back into it.
“The response was fantastic, the boys stuck to the task and played well. Little bit disappointed with the two goals we concede but i’m not going to be picky when you score five.”
Rodgers’ position is under question but he issued an emotional message to the fans straight after the game.
He said: “Keep supporting the team. This is a team that needs the support more than never.
“If they’re nervous when the teams passing out from the back, that will make the players anxious.”
