Burnley claimed a 2-0 win over Southampton at Turf Moor — their first victory since Sean Dyche’s departure — to move within one point of safety.
Connor Roberts stunned the Saints in the 12th minute with an outstanding finish off his weaker left foot, curled into the top corner from just outside the box to give the hosts the lead.
The Clarets squandered a number of chances prior to going 2-0 up just before the break as Nathan Collins glanced a header into the far corner that was allowed to stand after a VAR check.
Burnley had the ball in the net shortly after the hour mark but this time VAR ruled in favour of the visitors, disallowing Jack Cork’s goal for offside.

Burnley have now won their last two home league games, as many as they had in their last 24 at Turf Moor (D11 L11).
The Clarets have also scored five goals in that timeframe, as many as they’d bagged in their previous nine on home soil in the competition.
Meanwhile, Southampton have lost consecutive Premier League games against sides in the relegation zone for the first time since November 2003 (Newcastle and Aston Villa).
The Saints have also conceded more headed goals than any other Premier League side this term (13) — the most they’ve ever shipped in a season.
Roberts scored with Burnley’s first attempt in this game, the fifth time they have scored with their first shot on goal in a league match this season — only Arsenal (six) have done so more often.
Collins (20y 356d) became the first defender to score in consecutive home appearances for Burnley in the Premier League and the second-youngest player overall to do so for Burnley behind only Dwight McNeil (19y 128d).
James Ward-Prowse made his 300th Premier League appearance for Southampton, becoming only the second player to reach this milestone for the club after Jason Dodd (329)
