Stat Attack: All you need to know about Southampton 0-1 Wolves

The St Mary’s faithful suffered more woe as struggling Southampton made it six consecutive Premier League games without a win.

The hosts looked to have taken the lead in the closing stages of the first half through Nathan Redmond but it was ruled out for offside.

Raul Jimenez then proceeded to give Wolves the lead via a terrific solo goal in which the Mexican slalomed past multiple Saints defenders.

The goal was Jimenez’s first since his return from the horrific skull injury he suffered last year.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side piled on the pressure as full-time approached but the visitors held on for maximum points.

Despondent Saints boss Hasenhuttl said: “Finding the back of the net has been the biggest issue in the last three games.

“You can’t always keep clean sheets. You then concede a goal and lose a game you shouldn’t normally lose.”

Did you know?

Wolves have won three consecutive away games in all competitions without conceding for the first time since a run of four between October and December 2017.

Having last hit the net against Newcastle in October 2020, Jimenez scored his first Premier League goal in 336 days. His goal was his 15th attempt in the competition this season.

Jose Sa became the first Wolves keeper to assist a Premier League goal since Wayne Hennessey set up Kevin Doyle in October 2009 against Everton.

Since returning to the Premier League in 2018-19, 45 of Wolves’ matches have been goalless at half-time — two more than any other club in that time.

Southampton defender Valentino Livramento became the first 18-year-old to start his side’s first six Premier League games of the season since Phil Jones in 2010-11 for Blackburn.
