Romeo Lavia and Adam Armstrong were on the scoresheet as Southampton beat Chelsea 2-1 — condemning the Blues to their second defeat in three games.
The Blues opened the scoring in the 23rd minute as Mason Mount squeezed a pass across goal for Raheem Sterling, who took a touch before swivelling and tucking into the corner.
However, the Saints responded just five minutes later as a James Ward-Prowse corner came out to Lavia on the edge of the box and the young midfielder steered a superb effort in from distance to equalise.
And the hosts took the lead just before the break as Romain Perraud’s low ball from the left found Armstrong in acres of space in the box, with the striker having time to take a touch before lashing a deflected effort past Edouard Mendy that turned out to be the winner.
