Chelsea will scout Jordan Pickford at the World Cup as they continue their hunt for a new goalkeeper.
The Everton stopper has excelled for England at both the 2018 World Cup and Euro 2020, playing a key role for Gareth Southgate’s side.
He has been in talks over a new deal at Goodison Park, but has yet to put pen-to-paper on an extension.
His current one runs out in 2024 and while both the Toffees and Pickford are keen to reach an agreement, an offer from elsewhere may tempt the 28-year-old.
It would take a substantial wage off the books for the club and potentially allow Pickford to compete at the top end of the Premier League and in Europe.
The interest is there because Chelsea’s new owners remain unconvinced by both Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy, say The Sun.
Boss Graham Potter has preferred Kepa over Mendy, but the Blues are also keen on his former Brighton keeper Robert Sanchez.
The Spaniard established himself as one of the league’s best young keepers under Potter and is on Chelsea’s radar.
But they are aware it may take a huge fee to prise the 25-year-old away from the South Coast, which is why they are looking at alternatives.
