Transfer Talk: Chelsea look to Kil off talk of defensive crisis

Chelsea are considering a move for Wolves defender Max Kilman as the Blues brace themselves for multiple departures at the back this summer.

The 24-year-old has started every game of an impressive campaign for Bruno Lage’s men which sees them battling for an unlikely Champions League place.

Their success has been built on a strong defence — in which Kilman has been instrumental alongside Romain Saiss and Conor Coady.

The centre-back has even been tipped for a maiden call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad next month.

And with three Chelsea defenders appearing likely to leave the club this summer, talkSPORT say they will look to bolster their options with the signing of the former futsal ace.

The trio of Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta are all out of contract and defensive incomings are likely for Thomas Tuchel’s men.

The Blues have had scouts watching Kilman in recent weeks and it is understood that they were at Molineux for Wolves’ 2-1 victory over Leicester last Sunday.

The defender is reportedly a boyhood Chelsea fan, which could prove key in luring him to Stamford Bridge.

With Kilman operating on the left of a back three in the West Midlands, it is easy to see how he would fit into Tuchel’s set-up should they make the move.

The report also claims Chelsea are not giving up on their hopes of signing Sevilla defender Jules Kounde either.
