Transfer Talk: Four clubs battle for Lingard signature

Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan and Newcastle are all chasing wantaway Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard.

The Daily Mail say talks with two of those four clubs are at an advanced stage, with the 29-year-old set to finally depart his boyhood club following another frustrating campaign.

Lingard had plenty of suitors last summer after an impressive loan spell with West Ham but was convinced to stay put at Old Trafford by former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Yet despite being assured of more opportunities by both Solskjaer and interim boss Ralf Rangnick, the England international has made just four starts in all competitions.

The situation has left United’s No14 disillusioned and he is now ready to depart the club he has been with since the age of seven.

His brother Louie Scott took to social media earlier this week to express fury over the club’s actions, branding the 20-time English champions as “classless”, suggesting Rangnick had denied his sibling a farewell appearance at home to Brentford.

Incoming boss Erik ten Hag is keen to hold discussions with all current United players about their future but Lingard’s mind appears to be already made up.

It is hoped a fresh start at a new club will give him a crack at getting back into Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad ahead of the World Cup in Qatar.

Lingard netted a brace in his penultimate start for his nation against Andorra last September and has represented the Euro 2020 finalists on 32 occasions.

A move to the continent has worked wonders for the likes of Tammy Abraham and Jude Bellingham in recent times and the versatile midfielder is open-minded about heading abroad.

However, the opportunity to join Eddie Howe’s upwardly mobile Magpies could well prove the most attractive option of all.
