Newcastle are the latest club to join the race for Real Madrid star Marco Asensio.
A host of clubs are said to be tracking the Spaniard, 26, after making it clear he would like to leave Los Blancos this summer.
The likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and AC Milan have been credited with an interest and AS say the Magpies have now thrown their hat into the ring.
The wealthy Magpies continue to use their financial might under their Saudi ownership to compete for the world’s top stars and reportedly see Asensio as one they can lure to St James’ Park.
The attacking midfielder’s contract in the Spanish capital expires next summer and with no signs of an extension being agreed, a summer switch appears likely as club president Florentino Perez looks to avoid losing him for free.
The Mallorca native was previously a rising star at the Bernabeu but has fallen out of favour in recent years, starting only 19 times in LaLiga last term.
But having still managed 12 goals in 42 outings overall in 2021-22, the Geordies will see him as a player capable of making an impact in the Premier League.
It is reported that the 28-cap international will cost between £20-25million if Newcastle decide to push forward with a deal.
Boss Eddie Howe is also said to be chasing Lyon midfielder Lucas Paqueta, though reports in France say Arsenal have also made enquiries about the Brazilian.
