Transfer Talk: Red Devils edge closer to Eriksen

Manchester United have made a verbal contract offer to midfield maestro Christian Eriksen.

The 30-year-old Dane dazzled at Brentford last term in helping the Bees secure Premier League survival and is currently a free agent.

Thomas Frank would dearly love Eriksen to stay put in West London for another year but his fine form has inevitably attracted the attention of more glamorous sides, including the Red Devils.

And the Mirror claim United have held several rounds of positive talks with the ex-Tottenham ace, ultimately tabling a two-year contract worth £150,000 a week.

However, Eriksen is supposedly unwilling to rush into an agreement and has instead asked for more time to see what other business is done at Old Trafford this summer.

New boss Erik ten Hag is looking to revitalise his squad with the likes of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic and Edinson Cavani all having left for pastures new.

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong and Feyenoord defender Tyrell Malacia — both Netherlands internationals — are chief targets and United are optimistic of landing the pair.

De Jong would represent a marquee addition and the 25-year-old already spent an extremely successful 18 months working under Ten Hag at Ajax prior to his Barca move.

Meanwhile, the Sun claim a £13m agreement has been reached for left-back Malacia, who was set to join French outfit Lyon before United swooped.

It is thought capturing the Dutch duo would potentially be enough to convince Eriksen to follow suit.
