Transfer Talk: Summer battle to Nab Reds flop Keita

Liverpool are ready to let midfielder Naby Keita leave Anfield for free this summer.

The Reds agreed a then club-record deal with RB Leipzig for the Guinea international in August 2017 with the 27-year-old moving to Merseyside the following year.

He arrived with a fierce reputation and looked the part in his opening showings, though injuries have since gone on to blight the No8’s time in England.

Keita has featured only 11 times across all competitions this term, starting just twice in the Premier League, and was hooked in Saturday’s embarrassing 3-0 defeat at Wolves.

Jurgen Klopp is facing increasing calls to revamp his underperforming squad and Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg says Keita will be part of a mass summer clearout.

The player’s contract will expire at the end of June and recent talks over a renewal have not reached a positive conclusion, making a parting of ways the likeliest outcome.

It is not yet clear which clubs will move for the 50-cap star, though interest from Germany is probable given his previous exploits in the Bundesliga.

Meanwhile, Inter Milan were linked with Keita during the January transfer window and the Italian giants are expected to enter the race.

Any Premier League sides holding an interest are at a disadvantage, with Keita already free to enter negotiations with overseas clubs.
