Transfer Talk: United line up bid to land Lewandowski

Manchester United are rumoured to be in contact with representatives of Robert Lewandowski regarding a summer move.

The Polish striker, 33, has less than 18 months remaining on his Bayern Munich contract and is deliberating his next steps.

United’s interim boss Ralf Rangnick is a huge admirer of the Bundesliga star and according to 90min is keen to work with Old Trafford chiefs to prepare an offer.

Rangnick has said of the Bayern marksman: “Robert has been one of the best, if not the best, central strikers in Germany. For sure, in Germany and also in Europe.

“He scored 41 or 42 goals last season in the German Bundesliga and an additional couple of goals in the Champions League and in the German Cup so he’s an amazing, outstanding player.”

Any deal would be dependent on Bayern landing the prized signature of Borussia Dortmund No9 Erling Haaland.

The Bavarian giants are battling Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester City for the Norwegian, with Chelsea also said to be monitoring the situation.

Should the Dortmund hitman, 21, make the switch to Julian Nagelsmann’s side, Lewandowski would be free to talk to other clubs, with the Red Devils now eager to put themselves at the front of the queue.

Lewandowski’s current employers could go 11 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga with victory against Bayer Leverkusen this afternoon, as they continue to coast towards a 10th straight league title.
