Aston Villa are negotiating with Atletico Madrid over a shock move for playmaker Joao Felix.
Felix, 23, has featured in three of Portugal’s four World Cup games so far and has provided three goal contributions.
The Euro 2016 champions eased past Switzerland in the last 16 and Felix chipped in with two assists as Fernando Santos’ men ran out 6-1 winners.
And according to Marca, Villa are pushing to sign the 27-cap international with Unai Emery looking to add some more quality to his squad.
The former Benfica star has started only five LaLiga games for Atletico this season but does have three goals and three assists to his name.
Any deal involving the skilful attacker would likely constitute a hefty transfer fee with Felix tied down in Madrid until 2026.
Diego Simeone signed the 5ft 11in talent for £112.9million back in 2019, making him the world’s fourth most expensive signing at the time.
But Felix could leave for a fraction of that price and Villa are one of many clubs likely to be exploring a deal.
