– There are four more Premier League games on Wednesday
– Unai Emery will be looking to make home advantage could when Wolves visit Aston Villa
– Leeds will be looking for a fourth Premier League home win of the season against West Ham
Our Bet Builder for Wednesday’s matches features four sides in the bottom half in the Premier League, with Wolves making the short trip to Aston Villa and Leeds hosting West Ham.
Villa to continue improvement under Emery
Bet 1: Aston Villa to beat Wolves
Aston Villa look a team reborn under Unai Emery, who has made light of a daunting fixture list to claim three wins from his first four league matches as manager.
The four-time Europa League winner has beaten top-half trio Manchester United, Brighton and Tottenham, losing only to Liverpool in the league and United in the Carabao Cup.
Following a listless start to 2022-23 under Steven Gerrard, Villa suddenly look well-organised and focused, and a strong squad is playing to its potential.
Visitors Wolves have their own new manager in Julen Lopetegui but have not enjoyed the same bounce as Villa. Wanderers deservedly lost at home to Manchester United last time out and, before that, were very fortunate to beat struggling Everton 2-1 with a 95th-minute strike against the run of play.
Bet 2: Over one Aston Villa goals
Since Emery took charge, Aston Villa have scored two goals against both Brighton and Tottenham while putting three past Manchester United in a 3-1 victory.
And while the Villans were outclassed by Liverpool on Boxing Day, Emery’s men still got on the scoresheet in a 3-1 defeat – and could have scored more had Ollie Watkins and Leon Bailey not missed presentable chances.
They will fancy their chances of netting a couple more against a Wolves side who have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last five Premier League away games, conceding twice to West Ham and Crystal Palace in that run and shipping three at Chelsea.
Bet 3: Under 10 corners
Wolves’ limited ambition away from home means they rarely commit too many players forward, resulting in the Midlands side earning corner totals of just two, six, two and two in their last four away trips to Everton, Brentford, Crystal Palace and Chelsea.
Aston Villa have also predominantly played on the break and through the middle under Emery, returning corner counts of just three, four, zero and three in his four Premier League matches in charge.
This is unlikely to be free-flowing encounter so backing under 10 corners makes sense in a meeting between two largely cautious teams.
Leeds can hammer out-of-form visitors
Bet 1: Leeds to beat West Ham
West Ham arrive at Elland Road having lost their last five Premier League matches. And while two of those defeats came against Manchester United and Arsenal, their failure to take a single point from successive home games against Crystal Palace, Leicester and Brentford show how badly the Hammers are struggling.
Leeds have been pretty reliable on home soil, avoiding defeat in all five Elland Road outings against visitors from outside the top eight as the table stood on Tuesday lunchtime.
That run of results includes a 3-0 victory over Chelsea and defeats of Bournemouth and Wolves, so Jesse Marsch’s men will fancy their chances against out-of-form West Ham.
Bet 2: Over one Leeds goal
Leeds have been involved in some spectacular matches this season, losing 5-2 to Brentford, 4-3 to Tottenham and 3-2 Fulham, but also beating Bournemouth 4-3, Chelsea 3-0 and Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield.
Though it does not always work, particularly against teams boasting superior technical quality, Leeds usually approach matches with the intention of outscoring their opponents rather than containing them.
The Whites have scored at least two goals in half of their 16 league games and host a Hammers side who have kept just one clean sheet in their last nine, shipping at least twice in each of their last four outings.
Bet 3: Rodrigo to score at any time
Rodrigo has netted five goals in his last six Leeds appearances and will fancy his chances of getting on the scoresheet against a creaking Hammers defence.
The Spaniard has nine Premier League goals this season and that only tells half the story of how much attacking responsibility he has taken on this term. Rodrigo has unleashed 41 shots in 2022-23, which is almost twice as many as Brenden Aaronson, who is second on the list of Leeds shot takers with 21.
He is also on penalties and against a struggling Hammers backline who have already conceded four spot-kicks this term – only Nottingham Forest, Brighton and Bournemouth have conceded more – Rodrigo could find goalscoring opportunities easy to come by.
