There is a full programme of European action this weekend and we have picked out two games from Italy’s Serie A, two from Germany’s Bundesliga and one from Spain’s LaLiga to form a five-fold accumulator.
Two of the selections have home advantage with the other three on the road in our acca, which could return at 22/1.
Recommended five-fold: Empoli, Freiburg, Borussia Dortmund, Roma and Barcelona all to win.
Saturday, 2pm
Bet 1: Empoli to beat Spezia at 21/20
After a brief upturn in results that saw Spezia go five matches without defeat in Serie A, the minnows are again sinking towards relegation trouble.
The 116-year-old club is enjoying only its third year in the Italian top flight and is the smallest club in the division by a distance, with Stadio Alberto Picco offering a capacity of less than 12,000 — smaller than most League One grounds.
Manager Luca Gotti has seen his team score just one goal in their last five outings, losing the last three, and Spezia head to an Empoli side who have kept five clean sheets in six home meetings with teams placed 10th or lower.
Having netted in eight of their last nine Stadio Carlo Castellani outings, Paolo Zanetti’s hosts will fancy their chances of claiming a fourth home win in five.
Saturday, 2.30pm
Bet 2: Freiburg to beat Stuttgart at 4/5
Europa League-chasing Freiburg have suffered some chastening away defeats against the Bundesliga’s top teams this term but have been impressive on home soil.
Christian Streich’s side have taken 20 points from a possible 27 at their Europa-Park Stadion to compile the fourth-best home record in the Bundesliga, while Stuttgart find themselves third from bottom due to a dismal away record of four points from nine matches.
The visitors have conceded at least two goals in eight of those road trips and look set for another pointless away day.
Saturday, 2.30pm
Bet 3: Dortmund to win away at Werder Bremen at 10/13
A run of three draws in four for leaders Bayern Munich has opened up the Bundesliga title race, and third-placed Borussia Dortmund look intent on taking advantage.
Edin Terzic did not enjoy the smoothest start to his managerial career after Dortmund made his caretaker position permanent in the summer, but seven wins in the last nine league matches have now pulled BVB to within three points of the summit.
Werder Bremen won away at Dortmund during Terzic’s tricky start but the mid-table hosts have lost four of their last six matches — including a 6-1 defeat to Bayern and a 7-1 hammering at 11th-placed FC Cologne — and have lost each of the rest of their other six meetings with teams in Germany’s top six.
Saturday, 5pm
Bet 4: Roma to win away at Lecce at 19/20
Jose Mourinho’s Roma are on the charge, taking advantage of Juventus’ recent points deduction to stake their claim for a place in Italy’s top four.
The capital club suffered defeat in their last away game but there was no disgrace in losing to an 86th-minute strike against Serie A’s runaway leaders, Napoli.
That result aside, Mourinho’s men have won four and drawn three of their last seven league games and a record of 11 wins and no defeats in 13 meetings with teams below eighth in Serie A suggests they should have no problems away at 14th-placed Lecce.
Marco Baroni’s hosts have beaten only bottom side Cremonese in their last five outings, losing two of the last three to relegation-threatened pair Hellas Verona and Salernitana.
Sunday, 5.30pm
Bet 5: Barcelona to win away at Villarreal at 4/5
With Real Madrid away at the FIFA Club World Cup, Barcelona will fancy their chances of further extending their LaLiga lead when they head to El Madrigal.
Hosts Villarreal will be no pushovers as Quique Setien’s men currently sit sixth in Spain and have claimed shock victories over both Real and Atletico Madrid this season.
However, those results are somewhat isolated performances as Villarreal have lost the rest of their five meetings with fellow top-eight teams and they face a Barcelona side who are looking unstoppable in their quest for LaLiga glory.
Xavi’s men have dropped points in only three league matches this season and, barring a defeat at Real Madrid, have won each of the rest of their other nine LaLiga away games.
That includes victories at top-four duo Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad and at Villarreal’s European-chasing rivals Real Betis and Osasuna.
