Wolves vs Everton predictions: Troubled Toffees face tricky Molineux trip

– Wolves have won their last four home games without conceding
– Everton have lost just one of their last six away games
– Recommended bet: Back the draw

Everton are one of four teams desperate to avoid finishing in one of the last two available relegation places and they head to mid-table Wolves on Saturday knowing that a victory will keep them out of the bottom three for at least another weekend.

Sean Dyche’s side are a point outside the bottom three and would love to produce a performance similar to their last road trip when they registered a shock 5-1 victory at Brighton.

However, they could be given a stern test by Wolves, who will be eager to respond to last Saturday’s 2-0 loss away to Manchester United by delivering a decent display in their last home game of the season.

Team news

Chiquinho and Sasa Kalajdzic (both knee) are long-term absentees who will not be seen until next season.

Boubacar Traore is close to returning to contention but needs to be assessed as he builds up his match fitness.

Everton are keeping their fingers crossed over centre-forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who was withdrawn at half-time during last Sunday’s 3-0 loss at home to Manchester City.

Calvert-Lewin has returned to training and may start but Tom Davies and Vitalii Mykolenko (both thigh) are doubts and Ben Godfrey, Ruben Vinagre (both groin), Seamus Coleman (knee) and Andros Townsend (match fitness) are ruled out.

Conor Coady is ineligible to face his parent club.

The stats

Wolves have registered nine of their 11 Premier League victories this season on home soil.

They have posted the joint-highest number of home wins among teams outside the top eight and have won each of their last four home matches without conceding a goal.

Everton were 5-1 winners at Brighton on their last road trip, but that was only their second away victory in 18 attempts.

The Toffees have kept just one clean sheet in their last nine matches but they are unbeaten in their last three away fixtures.

Prediction

Everton know that two wins from their remaining games would guarantee the preservation of Premier League status but they may have to settle for a point at Molineux.

The Toffees are no strangers to a relegation battle, having finished last season just four points above the drop zone and they can probably deal with the pressure better than most of their fellow strugglers.

However, they are in a sticky situation and look short odds to win at Wolves, who have a strong home record.

The Toffees have registered just four away league wins in 37 attempts since the start of the 2021-22 campaign, but they have shown more resilience on recent road trips, collecting five points from the last three.

They have looked tougher to beat under Sean Dyche, although it is slightly concerning that they have shipped 10 goals across their last four fixtures.

Everton should not expect anything less than full commitment from Wolves, who should be highly motivated to win their last home of the campaign.

However, the teams have looked closely matched in recent weeks and a draw looks the most likely outcome.
