Jude Bellingham delivered a midfield masterclass against Senegal as goals from Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka swept England into the World Cup quarter-finals.
With France awaiting the winners on Saturday, Gareth Southgate recalled Saka to the starting line-up and Phil Foden retained his place.
But it was Bellingham, 19, who caught the eye as the driving force behind the Three Lions’ decisive attacks in the first half.
After an uncomfortable spell in which Southgate’s men repeatedly gave away possession too cheaply, the highly-rated Borussia Dortmund ace strode free to cut the ball across for Henderson to slot home after 38 minutes.
And he sparked England into life once again in first-half stoppage time, releasing Foden on the counter-attack to tee up Kane for the second.
Senegal made changes at the break in an attempt to force their way back into the game but fell further behind in the 57th minute when Foden squared for Saka to make it three.
