World Cup 2022: Round of 16 draw, dates and venues

The shocks kept on coming right up to the final round of group games at Qatar 2022, but Brazil’s 1-0 defeat in stoppage time to Cameroon did not prevent the favourites from booking their place in the round of 16.

The five-time world champions will face South Korea on Monday, after the World Cup’s surprise package grabbed a stoppage-time winner themselves over Portugal to leapfrog Uruguay into the runners-up spot in Group H.

After a thrilling group phase, Belgium’s ‘golden generation’ and World Cup powerhouse Germany have been sent packing while the likes of Japan, Morocco and Australia have upset many pre-tournament predictions by progressing into week three of football’s showpiece event.

We swing straight back into action on Saturday as Netherlands get things under way with the early game against the United States, while Lionel Messi will once again carry Argentina’s hopes as they square up to Australia in the evening.

England will resume their tilt at World Cup glory on Sunday evening, where Senegal are hoping to halt the progress of Gareth Southgate’s men.
